Top 5 Places to Stay North of NYC

Have car, will travel! Don’t underestimate the power of just one night away. If you live in the New York, New England area, all of these very special places are the perfect spots to relax and restore.

Tourists

We stayed here for my birthday in 2021, and I immediately thought we should have brought the kids! How do I describe Tourists…well for one, they’ve thought of everything. It’s clear that this ruggedly cool place was once a motel, but in the best way. The food was AMAZING. If you’ve been following me for a while you know I judge the quality of my trips by the meals I eat and this stay did not disappoint. Dinner was just a short walk from the Inn at The Airport Rooms, and 1813 farmhouse turned restaurant. So cozy and romantic! It looks like they’ve added three additional properties to book on their site which all look as expertly curated as the main property. If you still need another reason to add this to your must-visit list, The Clark Museum is just an 8 minute drive down the road.

Inness

We stayed here their opening weekend, and I have the best memories of this serene and impeccably designed space. If my wardrobe was a hotel, it would be INNESS. The neutral, rich color palette set against the beautiful colors of a Fall upstate is unmatched. We stayed in one of the double cabins with another couple which would also be perfect for a daily of 4 or 5. The food was delicious and they have since expanded their amenities significantly with the addition of a spa and pool.

Wildflower Farms

We also happened to stay here for their opening weekend. Wildflower offers a completely different palette than Inness, making it equally as interesting. Here, I felt like I stepped out of our car and into a Fall Ralph Lauren catalog. Highlights from our stay included an incredible prenatal massage (this trip was for my birthday/babymoon), a walk to the oversized chicken coop to pick eggs for breakfast, and breathtaking sunset views from our private cabin porch.

Deer Mountain Inn

This was a really fun trip and my first time back to The Catskills since I was a small child. We visited Halloween weekend with our friends, and each brought our babies and stayed in the recently added 2-story cabins. There are no fancy spas or golf here however, they have an incredible restaurant, bar/lounge area, as well as an attic for playing pool, listening to music, and watching a movie, making it the perfect place for larger family or friend celebrations. Short drive to Hudson, NY, for a morning or afternoon spent antiquing.

Copake Lake House

We stayed here just a couple of months after Margaux was born. My parents joined us, which worked out perfectly with the extra cottage. The bunk room makes it the perfect place for large families or traveling with friends. We stayed up late playing board games, roasted marshmallows overlooking the lake, and woke up to the most beautiful view. The house is just a short drive to Great Barrington, on of my favorite towns in America. I have a guide on my blog!
