The Atlantic - The Pandemic Has Erased Entire Categories of Friendship. There’s a reason you miss the people you didn’t even know that well.

Time - The 5 Best New Shows Our TV Critic Watched in January 2021. Lupin is a much watch. So good and refreshingly different.

Harper’s Bazaar - Haute Couture Street Style Straight from Paris. There may be less people on the streets, but they're still chic.

I have been on the HUNT for ski gear that won’t break the bank and let me tell you, its not easy. What I’ve realized after a week of research is:

1. You need to spend a little more for good quality, warmth, etc.

2. That doesn’t mean you need to spend luxury prices like $1,000+ for pants and a coat.

3. Discount brands like ASOS are cute but not warm enough for East Coast 10 degree temperature skiing.

I’m planning on doing a larger post on this but so far the best price to quality ratio has been Sweaty Betty. I’m not sure when they launched their ski line but I love what they have this year and right now its 30% off. I ordered these bib pants and also this base layer set.

chic - Love this cashmere twist knot headband for under $50. This camel colored one is a little thicker and only $29! Perfect après ski chic accessory.

make - I made these 30 minute creamy Thai turmeric chicken and noodles two weeks ago and they were out of this world! I messed up the recipe a bit and they still turned out great. Flavor is A+ and the kids loved them too which is always a win!

home - How sweet is this wood and rattan bench from Zara Home? I’ve always been impressed with their furniture and home products and pleasantly surprised by the quality as well. This one also comes in brown and would be great at the foot of a bed or under a large window!

denim - One of my favorite denim styles is back in stock! I suggest sizing up one size. They are a but of a splurge but a great all year around style:) If you’re looking for an under 100 pair these are my favorites.

cardi - Speaking of under $100…my cardigan from & Other Stories is also back in stock! I bought this one two years ago and then it sold out over the summer and finally restocked! I suggest getting your typical size.

BUILDING YOUR DREAM CLOSET

CELINE.JPG

“Don’t rush things. Anything worth having is worth waiting for.”

In college I loved walking the streets of Georgetown on the weekends and perusing the small cafes and shops. While my friends would go into some of the bigger name stores like Urban Outfitters, I fell in love with two little boutiques up on Wisconsin Avenue (If you’re from D.C. they were Urban Chic and Sassanova). They carried smaller brands like Rebecca Taylor and Tibi (both just starting out at the time) and other lines that would require lots of saving on my part. In between school and and an internship, I waited tables and babysat to save money for these special pieces. And so began my love of “collecting”. I still have some of them to this day!

I’ve never been an impulsive shopper especially when it comes to spending a little bit more. My love affair with the Celine Medium Classic bag or “Box bag” began over four years ago when my good friend was working for the brand. Here it is in a 2019 holiday gift guide. The bag retails for around $4,000 so I knew I was going to have to find it second-hand. Fashionphile is my go-to luxury handbag reseller and I’ve used them for years for both buying and selling. I probably checked their site once a week for the last year so when this bag popped up for under $1,500 a few weeks ago, I knew I had to act fast! The one I bought is definitely used but knowing how long I’ve waited for the ivory color I couldn’t let it go. If you’re ok with a little scratch or scuff I highly recommend going this route. You will save money that you can spend elsewhere and many times you can find a bag thats almost new!

fewer, better

I didn’t coin this phrase (I’ve seen a lot of brands use it) but I love it. Not only is it better for the environment, it’s better for you! Having a curated closet makes it easier to get dressed in the morning (and more fun!).

Building a closet is like decorating your house - collect pieces you love and your style will always be unique and original to you.

Invest in the classics, not in the basics - You don’t need to break the bank to look great. Spend on classic pieces like a black handbag or a beautiful cream cashmere sweater and save when it comes to tees or denim. You can find a great t-shirt for under $30 and a great pair of jeans for under $100.

Know your worth - Some brands hold their value and continue to increase overtime. Even secondhand purchases from brands like Chanel and Hermes can be worth more 5 years later. Taking care of them can mean selling them back for what you paid or for a profit.

Don’t be impulsive. Wait a month or two for big purchases and if you’re still loving it after more time, go for it!

making a BIG purchase

When I was 25 I bought myself the Chanel wallet on chain (WOC) in black. It was a huge purchase for me and I remember thinking about it for months before finally deciding to splurge. I was starting a new job and wanted to remember the moment and celebrate it. At the time it was $1,100. Fast forward 10 years and the exact same bag has now doubled in price and retails for $2,300. I still love wearing it, always keep it in the box when I’m not using it, and it looks as good as new. The best part? If I ever wanted or needed to sell it I would make money. A great investment! If you’re looking to purchase a “forever” bag I always recommend looking at Chanel first and strongly considering buying it second-hand.

House & Garden - Tara Craig's tiny London flat is a lesson in making a small space sing. Interior designer Tara Craig has worked wonders with her own flat in Chelsea, creating an elegant haven through inspired use of colour and pattern.

Food Network - How to store cilantro in the refrigerator (and other leafy herbs)! This is a tried and true method I always use! You can also do it with your parsley or dill and it will last up to a week. Just make sure to change out the water daily to ensure maximum freshness.

Harper’s Bazaar - The Case for Regé-Jean Page to Play James Bond. After the success of Bridgerton, there are some exciting 007 rumors afoot. Yes please!

Vanity Fair - How Harry and Meghan’s Royal Exit Led to an Unexpected Happy Ending. A year after their bombshell announcement, the Sussexes are putting down roots in Los Angeles, while the remaining royals are hard at work and as popular as ever.

TIME - The CIA's New Recruitment Website Aims to Diversify the Spy Agency. Wanted: Spies from all backgrounds and walks of life.

listen - I bought this turntable for Frank for Christmas. Growing up my Dad would play music almost every weeknight and on the weekends. I remember sifting through his record collection and even though its not as fast as yelling to Alexa to play a song, the ceremony of playing a record can’t be beat. Hoping this one has the same effect on our kids:)

make - The goop annual detox is here! I always love the detox recipes and they’re a great place to start if you’re wanting to kick the holiday sweets and get back to something for healthy. I don’t use it as a “diet” more like a refresh and pick a chose what looks good. The recipes shared in previous years have become some of my tried and true favorites like this slow-roasted salmon.

littles - Love this sweet enamel children's bowl and matching mug from this adorable shop Salter House in Brooklyn Heights, NY. They also sell my favorite bamboo cutlery for kids.

ski - I’ve been on the hunt for cool ski clothing and everything I’m finding is either outrageously expensive, boring, or just non-existent. I want a Swiss ski chalet vibe but without the price tag! And then I found this! Sweaty Betty has a ski line! Think Stella McCartney for Adidas. Its not inexpensive but in my experience SB is super high-quality and comfortable.
