Vanity Fair - Kate Middleton shows just how sustainable her wardrobe can get. I love that women like Kate send the message that fashion doesn’t have to cost a fortune and it doesn’t have to be one and done either.

The New York Times - Women’s unpaid labor is worth $10,900,000,000,000. If American women earned minimum wage for the unpaid work they do around the house and caring for relatives, they would have made $1.5 trillion last year! WHAT? Why don’t we place more value on unpaid care work? The world couldn’t function with out it.

Vogue - What you should know about International Women’s Day. I learned so much from this article like that there are specific themes for every year. This year’s theme is #eachforequal

Net-A-Porter - Kerry Washington on politics, protecting women’s voices, and her new series, Little Fires Everywhere.

Birkenstocks and Birkenstock-esque sandals have made a huge comeback over the last few years especially last summer and it looks like this one will be no different. Brands like Isabel Marant are designing their versions with some serious price tags. I was recently shopping Walmart for an upcoming partnership and was so excited to find these! Sharing some How to Style Inso below plus two under $40 styles that get you the look for less.

listen - Last night I was introduced to a new to me band, Mt. Joy. They are SO good. I’ve had this song, Jenny Jenkins on repeat all day! Look out for another Spotify playlist coming out at the end of this month. Here you can find Volumes one and two.

stock up - Coronavirus news is EVERYWHERE. Last week I decided that I didn’t want The Sunday Section to become a string of articles related to covid-19 and instead I want it to feel like a mini vacation from that news. When it comes to the virus my only real concern right now is what to do if our family needed to stay home for two weeks. Last week I started to get extras….rice, beans, granola. All the tings that we eat already (there will be no spam in tis house!). Here is a helpful article from Bon Appétite on how to prepare if you’re stuck at home for two weeks. Very happy to see Nutella on that list as I just bought a jumbo value pack from Costco!

reset - I’m not a big detoxes, dieter, or cleanser. I prefer smaller changes or shifts that I can turn into habits. However, I do like the idea of a 3-day reset like this one. Its broken down easily into categories and the pictures really help (it sounds so obvious but they really do!). What I’ve found helps with a short-term plan like this one is they allow me to practice resipes I may want to continue and its also short enough for me to finish what I started. A win, win!

coffee table book - I’m pretty sure this is my favorite coffee table book…ever. I love every photograph in this beauty. Athena Calderone’s style is inspiring, calming, and gorgeous, and I want to live in these pages.

It can be hard when you feel like you need a refresh in your life but because of scheduling, work, school, or financial reasons you just can’t get away. I’m not promising that this will replace the feeling of a beach vacation BUT it can help! Refreshing an area in your home can be done for under $100 and is a nice mood lifter. Here are some budget-friendly and neutral options i’m loving right now. Don’t forget to add an easy to care for plant like a fern!

When it comes to shopping a sale, I’ve always said less is more. I know that with phrases like “fewer, better” swirling around these days it may start to sound cliche, but really, don’t get duped into overfilling your cart for 15% off. My advice to my clients: At the beginning of every season start to hear the pieces you love. If you have to have them at full price, buy them. Chances are if you’re loving it, there could be 100 people behind you and if its a small brand, it will sell out. If you can wait, hold tight! Once a sale is announced you’ll be prepared and can immediately shop your favorites. One impulse buy is OK but no one wants to end a season with a closet full of regrets. Below I rounded up four pieces I’m eyeing this sale (or already have at home and love).

the guardian - Greta Thunberg’s mom on what it was like to watch her daughter withering away in silence before coming one of the biggest (and youngest) climate activists the world has ever seen. When I think of climate change, I see Greta’s face. Her voice, and her work so far, have been powerful for all generations but especially for mine and the ones before me. We can no longer stand by while our planet suffers beyond repair.

the everygirl - Ten grocery store hacks I use every week. OK, 8, 9, and 10 are some of mine too! I especially love the one about buying something you’ve never tried cooking with before. I wouldn’t go in blind on this one though. Instead, first find a new recipe you want to try with some different ingredients. You don’t need any unopened bottles of ____ sitting in your pantry for the next two years!

Johns Hopkins - A live map tracking cases of the coronavirus. I mentioned this on Instagram yesterday and want to say it here too. I don’t want to be an alarmist but I also want to address this virus and not ignore it. We’re all seeing so much information about it on a daily basis and I think it’s good to have access to sites like this one to be able to check-in on what’s happening.

Vogue - Major inspo at this stunning Newport mansion wedding. Last summer we visited Rosecliff Mansion with the Tyler Boe team and I was in awe (click here for a pic I snapped in the ballroom). American elegance at its finest.

The Zoe Report - Amazon reviewers call these 42 fashion pieces their favorites in their wardrobe. I never bought into super trends like the Amazon jacket or dress but I have purchased one thing on this list! This bra.

Ever since I committed to wearing more sustainable fashion this year I keep coming back to everlane. The brand is committed to sustainability and transparency AND they offer classic yet on-trend styles that are affordable. I’m a big fan.

drink this - Soup! I was never a big fan of soup until recently. I’m not sure what happened but not I really enjoy making it, and eating eat. I like Half Baked Harvest’s soup recipes because most of them are really hearty and feel like a full meal. Here is a great one from last March for Persian lamb and chickpea stew with rice. Also this 30-minute miso ramen looks delicious!

wear - I can’t remember if I mentioned these leggings already so at the risk of sounding redundant, here they are. INCREDIBLE. Full disclosure: I almost never wore leggings before I recently received these. I blame the eight years I spent in Catholic school when I was a teenager. After wearing them every.single.day. I basically wanted to burn every pair come graduation day. Now, 15 years later I’m ready to introduce them into my wardrobe again. But only THIS pair:)

beauty - Town & Country just announced their 2020 luxury beauty awards which includes over 30 beauty products from serums to hair dryers. Are any of your products on this list? I was surprised to not see more natural and organic companies featured. Maybe they should do a separate round-up for those? One product I’ve been wanting to try is this concentrated brightening essence. I love Tata Harper and when I’ve always found her line to be effective (and it smells amazing!).

mascara - I’ve tried four natural mascara’s in the last two months and kept striking out. Some were drying, some were clumpy, and most of them just didn’t look good. Last weekend I was meeting my best friend in NYC and realized I had forgotten to put on mascara. I called her and asked her if she could pick some up for me while I drove in. When I arrived at lunch she surprised me with this one. She told me it was the best one she’s ever used, and she was right. It’s a far cry from CVS for $15.99 but using a natural one is important to me and it works, well. Clean, non-toxic, hydrating, and dark sexy lashes, you’re welcome!

watch - Very Ralph. I finally watched the HBO documentary made about Ralph Lauren. Everyone kept telling me to watch it but I kept putting it off. There is a little part of me that will always be sad that my time there is over. I loved working for Ralph Lauren so much. I guess you can say I really drank the kool aid and watching it brought back so many memories. Ralph’s story was such an inspiration to me. It all started with a tie, but even before that it started with a boy and his dreams. For Ralph Lauren, fashion wasn’t just about designing a collection, it was about telling a story, and he wanted to help people live their best lives through his clothing.

SPRING ON MY MIND

Spring2020.png

I can’t help it! Spring has been on my mind. But did you know that it is less than 25 days away? Yup! March 19th! This has actually been a pretty mild Winter on the East Coast so I can’t complain, but I miss the sun. Vitamin D deficiency is a real thing and even just an hour of sun a day really helps my mood.

SO here is a little dose of what’s to come. Today I’m sharing some of my favorite new arrivals. Creating this collage and roundup gave me a major itch to search flights to warm weather destinations. Spring Break is around the corner and I’m thinking we may need to head somewhere sunny even if just for a couple of days. Stay tuned!

The Wall Street Journal - Always thought you were a Scorpio? Think again! Why the Earth’s small change may change how we’ve looked at astrological signs.

Town & Country - Harry and Meghan. If you’ve been following along as the royal couple “uncouples” from the crown, then you know this has not been without controversy. On Friday, the Duke and Duchess shared every detail of their new arrangement including their year-long trial period. See the updated website here.

Business of Fashion - How the coronavirus is impacting fashion and what businesses can do to prepare for shipping and manufacturing delays.

Smithsonian Magazine - The original Gwyneth Paltrow. Madame Yale Made a Fortune With the 19th Century’s Version of Goop

Vogue - A dinner where all the guests come makeup-free. I kid you not - I was just thinking of doing a week of zero makeup on IG. In the world of filters and beauty apps, it can be really hard to remember what everyone actually looks like - and that it’s beautiful too! I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of this natural look this Spring and Summer…I hope.

Departures - Where to experience Midnight sun this summer. Really looking forward to longer nights spent outside!

Last week on Instagram I styled three budget friendly pieces for Spring from H&M. The response to the try-on was incredible! Sharing those pieces here and a few others I have my eye on:

w h a t

make - 49 mushroom recipes so good, they're magic. I LOVE maitake mushrooms. They’re so earthy and delicious and surprisingly satisfying. I’ll definitely be trying this recipe next week! Also, this recipe for mushrooms with polenta and thyme looks amazing! Love it when the list of ingredients is short! OK and last but not least (not mushrooms) I just had to include this earl grey yogurt cake! I’m going to try it and sub dairy-free yogurt!

cover - In case you missed it, I shared on Instagram stories my absolute favorite slips/undergarmets for any and ever occasion. Because I’m a huge fan of the white dress I reach for mine multiple times a week especially in the summer. Click here: classic slip, strapless slip, long john romper.

breathe - If you haven’t watched the goop Netflix series yet, watch it tonight! Skip right to my favorite episode featuring half naked Dutchman Wim Hof aka “ice man”. His breathing technique has been proven to lower a body’s alkalinity thus making it less susceptible to things like cold exposure and even disease. It was incredible to watch the goop team plunge into icy water after a short training with Hof. This article outlines what it is and how you do it.

style - Last week I posted a tour of our living room and dining room on THE GIRL LOOK BOOK and on IGTV. One of my favorite pieces from the reveal is this marble link. It really works in any space and as far as “objects” go, it feels special, almost like a piece of art. In a small space you have to be so careful to not over accessorize….the word tchotchkes comes to mind! You can still use code TGG25 on Bloomist for $25 off $100 until the end of the month.

Korkidis HOUSE: OUR LIVING ROOM AND DINING ROOM

ArtemisKorkidisTheGirlGuide-AtHome

Decorating a small space can be just as difficult as a big one. This summer it will be three years that we’ve lived in our home. If I have one piece of advice it is to take your time! There is no rush. Don’t just buy pieces because you need to, collect them. Of course there are places where you won’t be able to wait as long but overall I’m happy that the Korkidis House is a work in progress and I still love everything we bought 3 years ago. Here are some other tips for decorating in smaller spaces:

Neutrals- I love a neutral wardrobe and styling my home is no different. Having a monochromatic palette helps to create a calm space and will also make it appear bigger.

Storage - one of the hardest parts of of having a small room is storage….where do I put all my stuff?? We love using these belly baskets throughout our home making it easy to tidy up quickly. baskets are also great for storing extra pillows and blankets.

Texture - When styling with neutrals, texture is key. I love incorporating this element by adding linen or wool throw pillows like this one.

Nature - bringing natural elements like plants and flowers into a space is really important. It creates warmth and good energy. This can be as simple as spending less than $10 a week on grocery store fillers. They’re my favorite! Invest in vases and vessels that feel like art for a styled look.

scent - first impression when you walk into room…the look and the smell! I always have our diffuser on or will light a candle if i’m going to be in the space for a while. This scent is one of my favorites because it’s very light and also non-toxic.

Accessories can really make a space. Using items like trays, objects, and books, are essential to creating a warm and cozy environment. I discovered Bloomist about a year ago and fell in love with everything! So when I was ready to start styling our space I knew I wanted to work with them and IMMEDIATELY reached out. Not only does their neutral aesthetic align with my own, their ethos and commitment to sustainability are unique in this space and an inspiration. They work mostly with small artisans which means when you purchase from bloomist you are supporting two small businesses. Today I’m so excited to offer a special discount for my followers. Use code TGG15 to receive 15% off your order or TGG25 for $25 off a $100 order.

I’d much rather wake up to a little buzz under my pillow than my typical blasting music. Marie Claire - The Guerrilla Feminists Papering Paris at Night. Frenchwomen have covered their cities with slogans denouncing violence against women. They refuse to stop until they see change.

watch - We spent Valentine’s Day evening at home. Frank made a delicious dinner (a Sunday Section recipe) and then after the boys went to bed we did what we always do….scrolled Netflix! So I asked my Instagram followers to help. Here were the top suggestions:

To all the boys I’ve loved before: P.S. I still love you (this is the sequel, I watched the first one last night and it was so good)

Twin peaks

The Pharmacist

Goop Lab

farm to table - But better. If only we could all eat like this, all the time. Small batch jasmine rice from a family farm in the Mississippi Delta, fresh pasture-raised eggs from a family owned farm in upstate NY - I’m not exaggerating when I say the tastes of some of Mike’s Organic products are some of the best I’ve ever had. I’m not sure who said it first but I’ve heard the phrase, “we vote every time we buy something at the grocery store”. This year I want to vote for more small farmers and buy local whenever I can.

sneakers - The new Everlane sneaker is worth the hype. It’s $98, made of recycled materials, and extremely comfortable. Best part? The colors! This off white fulfills all of my monochromatic neutral dreams:)

The Catskills

The ultimate weekend getaway…even if you don’t want to ski! Marie Claire just published this weekend guide and I immediately began planning our next road trip. We love The Berkshires but I’ve been interested in trying something new. When I was younger my parents took as to a camping lodge up in the catskills and our family got lost on a hike! Wasn’t funny at the time but I’m laughing now thinking about it!

Huffington Post - The Myth of Sustainable Fashion. A very interesting read as I continue to learn about sustainability in the fashion world. It seems many brands are forgetting a very big part of creating a more sustainable world - buying less. “In H&M’s case, having some ‘sustainable’ materials in the mix makes little difference when in 2018 they overproduced $4.3 billion worth of goods”, the article goes on to say.

The New York Times - How not to get sick while traveling. Is it on your mind because its definitely on mine. I had planned to visit my best friend in Nashville for Winter break with Luke and Harrison but have decided to cancel. I may end up going by myself but I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks with the boys while there are still so many unknowns. This article had me googling “N95 respirator masks”. There is new information about the Coronavirus every day - my feeling is to read, stay informed, be prepared, and try not to overreact.

Bon Appétit - Don’t bake another thing before you read this. 10 non-negotiables just released by Better Baking. From parchment paper to the proper way to measure flour, make sure you give these a careful look. My biggest problem with baking is measure TBH AND the fact that I never have the size pan the recipe calls for so I always end up winging it. I’m better with a dash of this and a splash of that:)

Vanity Fair - Mike Bloomberg wants to build an influencer army. If you have between 1,000-100,000 followers on Instagram or Twitter you could get paid by his campaign for posting.

I’ve always been very interested in the relationship between what we eat and how we feel. I myself have had huge success with transforming my diet in the name of health. you can read about my stomach issues in this post. According to Harvard physician William Li, mangos are the golden food, dark chocolate mobilizes stem cells, and your daily cup of Joe can delay aging.

make - One-Pot-Style Meals for the Pressure Cooker, Skillet, and Sheet Pan. Our favorite is the skillet baked eggs and here is an oldie but goodie from Half Baked Harvest, One Skillet Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken and Orzo. It is SO easy to make and a crowd pleaser! This is my favorite cast iron skillet.

runway - My favorite show from NYFW so far? Tory Burch killed it.

wear - STRIPES! It’s not quite Spring yet, but you can give your wardrobe a refresh with this classic style.

Vanity Fair - The dangers of flying rich and flying private. It never occurred to me that the regulations and rules were less strict on a private aircraft. I actually always assumed the opposite - that a private pilot might have more experience because they were retired from the Air Force or that a private plane was held to a higher standard. This is not true, and what I was missing was safety not just on the ground but in the air and factors like “get-there-itis” and other pressures that this article suggests have a big impact on the industry.

watch - Netflix’s Miss Americana give us an intimate look inside the life of Taylor Swift. She writes, produces, and sings and some would call her a kind of musical genius. She herself credits her success to the fact that she is the creator and the inspiration is her life. Swift is vulnerable and she is inspirational. Whether you’re a fan or not, I recommend watching.

eat - Good Housekeeping breaks down meal prepping for us in this article. I’ve never been a big fan of meal prepping but I do make a batch of roasted veggies and brown rice every Sunday. It is really helpful on those nights when I’m running late. Need insp this week? THIS Farro and broccoli bowl with lemony tahini was delicious!

legging - Everlane just launched their first legging and its classic, sustainable perfection. They run TTS and the material is great in and out of the gym. I’ve never been big on wearing exercise clothes throughout the day but styled right and in classic colors, it can be a chic and comfortable look. Everlane also has a great bone colored jean which is a Girl Guide closet must-have!

denim - The 90’s are new again which means so is the straight leg jean. The rules for wearing the “mom jean” are simple, keep things classic. Wear yours with a simple white tee or your favorite button-down shirt and always tuck in. See some more styling tips here. Looking for an under 100 version? I love these.

travel - When I’m looking for a comfortable lounge set for a client or for myself I always start here. I’ve had this lounge set for two years now and its great! You can layer it with a pair of leggings and a cashmere scarf if you’re traveling from cold to sun and when you arrive you’ll be left with a chic romper!

January15ArtemisKorkidis-52.jpg

Date night doesn’t have to be dinner and a movie (I mean it can be) but don’t get down on yourself if it doesn’t look like it does in the movies. We’ve never really “celebrated” Valentine’s Day. When we were younger, Frank and I would try to get out to dinner together that night or another night that week and that was it. With two kids, a job, and a busy schedule, I live for the nights when we can get the boys to bed early, open a bottle of wine, and watch a movie uninterrupted. It is RARE! Recently what we’ve been doing is trying to steal some time away during the day instead. For example going to a coffee shop together at 5pm on a Friday or breakfast alone on a Saturday morning. The thing I realized is its the time with each other that is important, and it doesn’t always have to look like a traditional “night out”. That being said, if you do find yourself being taken out for a night on the town, this top is gorgeous and worth the $69 price tag! I also have this lace style from the same brand in the ivory color which I’ve featured here before. I love it because the sleeve has just the right amount of puff and just like the black one, it also comes with a camisole.

SUSTAINABLE FASHION

sustainablefashion-thegirlguide-ArtemisKorkidis

I can’t tell you how excited I am to start digging into this topic. To be honest it felt a little overwhelming at first but once I started doing research I realized so many of the brands I wear and love already practice sustainability. For the last three years I’ve been doing my best to use only natural, organic, and/or sustainable brands when it comes to my beauty routine. For two reasons: 1. I care deeply about what I put on mine and my family’s skin and 2. I don’t want to support a brand that tests on animals or is harmful to the environment. Practically speaking, the cost of these products is more, but the results have been worth the investment: I look better and feel better knowing I’m doing what’s right for myself and the planet.

This year I want to take the next step and add another layer of sustainability to my life by paying more attention to the clothing and accessories I’m wearing (this includes jewelry). Additionally, it means supporting brands that focus on sustainable packaging (I’m currently testing out a new deodorant that sells refills and reduces plastic) and creating less waste. As I’ve been researching the topic, the same notion keeps coming up, buying less is part of living a more sustainable life. Fewer and better has always been important to me and I think I’ve found a balance that works - 1. invest in luxury items that will last and quality craftsmanship like this sweater for example which is made of 100% natural yarn, and 2. fill in the rest with less expensive sustainable brands like Everlane and H&M.

Tip: Give yourself a break! The fact that you’re thinking about being more sustainable is a step in the right direction. If we could get the whole world thinking this way we’d be in much better shape. Small steps are better than no steps! I found this article to be very helpful as a baseline for understanding sustainable fashion.

Marie Claire - Inside the new sobriety movement and a new trend of “sober curious” women. I understand this concept. Neither my sister nor I drank in our 20’s. It didn’t really do anything for me and I didn’t understand the allure. It wasn’t until my early 30’s (and the arrival of children) that I found enjoyment in a glass of wine with friends after a long week.

The New York Times - A former night owl’s guide to becoming a morning person. I’ve talked about this a few times already in The Sunday Section because I am a BIG night owl and I actually wish that I could become more of a morning person. “The world isn’t made for night owls”, the article begins and its true! My excuse is that I do a lot of my work for the blog at night after the kids go to bed, but what if I flipped it and woke up earlier?

Vogue - I ditched my phone for a cattle drive. Vogue author Ella Riley-Adams, and her unexpected experience at Triple Creek Ranch in Montana.

Net-A-Porter - Natural beauty, actor, and now activist Amber Valetta speaks about climate change, her arrest last year in Washington with Jane Fonda, and her greatest fear. I really enjoyed this article and learning more about the transformation from fashion model and addict to sustainable hero.

The Wall Street Journal - The USDA proposes relaxing school lunch healthy eating rules. Ummm why does it feel like we are going backwards here???

podcast - The world famous skin goddess, Dr. Barbara Sturm answers all of your skin questions in this new podcast on Goop. Questions about a blood facial or want to hear more about why we need to use hyaluronic acid? Listen! She created her famous anti-pollution drops because of the two most common forms of pollution: digital light and environmental.

body - Winter hands always get to me. If my face looks like I’m 30, my hands look like I’m 70. I’m definitely an over washer especially now that I have kids, and it shows. Recently I found a combo thats been working for me. At night I use 2-3 pumps of this body oil and combine it with this body lotion.

eat - I was so excited to receive Half Baked Harvest’s newest cookbook last week, Super Simple. I feel like a broken record but I love her recipes and I LOVE her cooking videos. She makes everything feel easier, you watch one and think, “I can do that!”. Here is a slow cooker chicken soup that is incredible! We don’t have a slow cooker so I made it on a Sunday when I knew I was going to be home and let it cook on low heat for 4 hours.

pregnancy - Are you thinking about thinking about trying? I was 28 when we first started “thinking”. It took us over a year to get pregnant with Luke and I still remember that time and how stressful it was to have zero guidance. You feel like you’re in limbo: too early to go to the doctor to see “whats wrong” but also not pregnant yet. In walks The Fruitful Program. Founded but two wellness beauties (and sisters), Sarah, an acupuncturist and herbalist, and Carolyn, a nutritionist, Fruitful is a 6-week course that helps women begin their journey to parenthood.

lace blouse - my best selling top EVER is this lace blouse. I think its success is based on a combination of the price (it retails for $89), and its elegant look and fit. It is the perfect date night top and so versatile. I’ll be sharing its sister version sans a puff sleeve on the blog this week and its arguably just as good.

Australia

How to help victims of AUS wildfires:

AUS Red Cross - accepting donations to its Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, which has helped to send 1,285 staff members and volunteers to communities affected by the fires and to provide support to displaced people sheltering in more than 69 evacuation and recovery centers.

NSW Rural Fire Service - supports local firefighters and community workers.

World Wildlife Fund - If you're looking for a gift, you can adopt a koala through WWF. The special adoption gift pack includes a cuddly koala plush toy, koala fact book, adoption certificate, tote bag, Living Planet magazine, and WWF sticker. You can choose for the gift pack to be sent directly to your gift recipient, or you can choose to receive it to give to them yourself.

Vogue - Is farming the most interesting job in America? Meet Kristin Kimball, farmer, mother, best-selling author, and co-owner of Essex Farm in upstate New York. After reading this article she seems like a of super hero of sorts, but despite growth and huge success, they are just one bad crop away from losing it all. Learn about their “full diet” CSA - this is something I’ve been considering more and more for our family. It would save me time, be a benefit to our family’s health, and also support our local farmers.

Harper’s Bazaar - The 35 best TV shows of the 2010’s. I still haven’t seen The Americans but we just finished Watchmen and I highly recommend it.

The Wall Street Journal - The best temperature for a good night’s sleep. Last week on Instagram I shared Frank and my never ending debate over the thermostat. I would love to keep our house between 68-69 while he prefers a cooler 66-67. It seems like a small difference but in our leaky 1920’s home, one degree can feel like I’m traveling from the the arctic to a warm beach (kidding, slightly). But in all seriousness, I was happy to read all of your responses and to find that we’re not the only ones fighting over temperature!

The New Yorker - A review of Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. I can’t wait to see this one.

National Geographic - How Australia’s fires will create problems for drinking water.

white shirt - Love the balloon sleeve detailing on this classic style. Pair it with this budget-friendly mom jean for a clean and classic look.

detox - There is always a big push at the beginning of a new year to change our diets, stop drinking alcohol or eating sugar, and to exercise more. But how do we make these changes last and improve our health in the long run? I’ve been following the annual goop detox since 2017. I love it because you’re omitting many of the tigger foods but its still delicious enough to make it a habit. To this day some of my favorite recipes are from previous years and are still in heavy rotation in our house: like this apple cinnamon oatmeal, this lentil and radicchio salmon, and if you’re willing to collect all the ingredients, this turmeric warming latte. Click here for the 2020 detox and five day meal plan.

dressing - I’m giving this its own line even though I’ve already mentioned goop because I don’t want it to get lost in the mix! This dairy-free green goddess dip/dressing is SO GOOD. I always have to pass up on a creamy green dressing because of the yogurt or cream but not this one! Here is a crunchy salad recipe to go with.

travel - The cheapest days to fly in 2020. I’ve been dreaming of going to Paris for our 8 year anniversary this May. Looks like June 3rd might be the best day for it…so helpful!

work essentials - I don’t have an “office” per say and I’m always on the go for work. Over the last year I’ve started to accumulate a few “essentials” that I can’t live without. Frank purchased me the tile last Christmas when I lost my wallet (two weeks before the holiday - not fun) and I can’t live without it now. It helps me find my wallet and also my phone! Other essentials: a cell phone charger, lip balm, pouch for my receipts, and a computer case. I’m still on the hunt for the right 2020 planner if anyone has suggestions!

NATURAL DEODORANTS AND HOW I FIXED MY SMELLY PITS

ArtemisKorkidis-THEGIRLGUIDE-INNERLIGHT.jpg

a n a t u r a l s o l u t i o n

A little part of me just died of embarrassment typing out the title of this post. In the beginning of the Fall I shared on Instagram my struggles with finding a natural deodorant. None of them worked for me and I was inevitably smelly mid-way through the day. I figured it was just me, my chemistry, and I (and Frank) would have to live with it…forever! When I shared my pain in stories one day last summer, I was shocked at how many responses I received. Almost 1,000 messages with suggestions of natural deodorants that worked for you and also so many messages asking for me to share my findings. I’m so happy I shared…because it led me to this point…smell-free!

Have you ever heard of an armpit detox? I hadn't. Pretty Frank, formally known as Primal Pit Paste makes one and it is incredible. It saved me. The new name makes me laugh…maybe I should pitch Frank to them as their knew spokesman:) Anyway, the way it works is you literally are detoxing your armpits with their baking soda and charcoal deodorant sticks. I did it for three weeks. They also include a primer to calm irritation during the process but I didn’t find it necessary. My only warning re: the process is to be careful when using the charcoal at night - it will stain your light colored clothing.

After the detox it was like magic. I started re-testing all of the natural deodorants I was interested in and they were working! Some better than others, but for the first time I was able to WORK OUT and not smell. I’ve rounded up my top picks below with my favorite being the one from Corpus.

pretty frank (formally primal pit paste)

corpus

I love everything about this one - the packaging, the smell, and most importantly I love that it goes on clear. It also doesn’t stain my white shirts.

native

This was my second favorite. It worked, but I didn’t love the first scent I tried. I do recommend it however if you’re looking to switch to natural.

Agent Nateur - The Holi stick

This is the one I was using (and smelling with) before I did the pit detox. Now? I can wear it no problem. They also make one for Men that Frank uses.

NEW YEAR, SAME ME

December18Artemis-98.jpg
December18Artemis-95.jpg

Don’t give up - anything worth fighting for, you have to fight for.

It is never too late to start - take that step, that thing you’ve been wanting to do? step up to it and into it, your future self (in 10 years) will thank you.

If there is anything that this last decade has taught me it is those two things. Ten years ago I was starting over. I had just had what I refer to now as a quarter life crisis and I knew I had to make some big changes. I quit my job, recommitted to my relationship, and was starting fresh. I set goals for myself in both my personal and work life and started at the bottom so to speak. If you told me then that it was going to take ten years to get where I am today I probably would have laughed (and then cried haha)... but it was all worth it.

I’ve had women (and a few men) ask me if I think its too late to start blogging and my answer is no. Is it true that there are more bloggers/influencers now than 5 years ago? Yes of course, but no two people are the same. I truly believe that there will always be room for a new perspective and for a unique voice. It sounds cliche but if you want something bad enough and work for it, in my experience it will happen. It may not be exactly what you first set out to achieve and the path that takes you there may look different than you imagined, but you will get there.

styling

In 2019 I started sharing more about my styling business. How I got here, what I offer, and some of my processes. This year I want to take it a step further and get back to sharing more styling content. I love creating style guides: what to pack, at any age, but to be honest, these collages take so.much.time. to create. Over the next few months I’ll be working on a plan to streamline the way I create these post and hope to be able to make them more frequently. They’re honestly some of my favorite content!

Additionally, I want to start focusing more on seasonal capsules. You all loved my Fall capsule wardrobe! I have ideas on how to expand them into different lifestyles (for example SAHM, office looks, model off duty style, etc.) so stay tuned…

blog

more video - I really love creating video content and it is something that excites me but is also a little scary. Unchartered territory. Thats how I know I need to be doing more of it:) I started my youtube channel last year but it needs a little love:)

pinterest - Using pinterest more and growing an audience on the platform was one of my goals for 2019. I re-discovered it last year and have really enjoyed using it as a creative outlet and also as a source of inspiration.

newsletter

This should be at the top of my list! I’m being 100% transparent here, my goal was to get this done, and up and running by November 1st. I missed it. I don’t know what happened, for some reason it scares me partly because it feels like a big commitment and partly because there has been a bit of a learning curve figuring out how to get it going. But I’m doing it! I will have a newsletter by February. Please subscribe when I do haha!

health

One thing that really hit me last year and specifically over the last 6 months - I don’t take care of myself enough. Sure I eat well, drink green tea, but beyond salads and a basic multi vitamin, I really don’t focus enough on my health. I work an average of 60 hours a week between the blog, Instagram, shooting photos and video, styling clients, and research. The rest of the time I’m doing #momlife and it leaves little time to slow down. If i’m being honest with myself, things are not going to slow down, and actually thats exciting to me….I love what I do. But that being said my health has been suffering. I’m exhausted, I need supplements, probably probiotics, to eat even better, more exercise. I’m not really sure what this will all look like but I’m committed to focusing more on my health in the new year and prioritizing me. There is something to be said for the saying: “put your own oxygen mask on first”.

thank you

Lastly I want to thank you, my readers, from the bottom of my heart. Your messages, your likes, and your support means the world to me. I feel so lucky to have this space and that I get to call this my job. I love hearing from you and my mailbox is always open!

goop - Five beauty resolutions for 2020. I was trying to pick my favorite but they’re all #goals. Going completely clean has been a priority of mine since I had Harrison and I’m always trying to improve. From my skincare to our laundry detergent, to tea bags (!), there is always something:) I always say do the best you can and most importantly try to reduce plastics. This is the soap we have now at our sinks (including the kitchen).

The New York Times - As a condition of her settlement, Gretchen Carlson signed an NDA and has since been silenced from speaking about the details of what happened to her. Before Carlson courageously filed her sexual harassment complaint against Roger Ailes, there was no #metoo movement. She never imagined her story would be turned into a motion picture - Bombshell starring three of Hollywood’s leading actresses. I was shocked when I learned that Gretchen was legally bound from contributing to this film or any others telling her story. Read her opinion piece on why she should be released from her NDA.

Newsweek - Illinois will require insurers to cover diagnostic mammogram follow-ups to initial screenings in 2020. This is an important step in the fight against breast cancer as early detection is key in defeating the disease. When I had a scare last month my initial basic mammogram wasn’t enough and the doctor ordered a 3D mammogram as well as a sonogram. I was told that the 3D mammogram would be an extra out of pocket fee and that neither would likely be covered. I can’t imagine not being able to afford the additional testing and worse, making the decision to not get it because of money.

ELLE - How to spend New Year’s 2020 based on your sign. Mine (Libra) made me laugh because its too accurate - mothering, being present, and a vegan dinner, and some self-care. There is really something to be said for this astrological stuff!

watch - Netflix’s new releases coming in January 2020. We are actually on our way to cancelling “classic cable” in our house. The prices have skyrocketed in the last year and I refuse to pay $250/month for TV and internet in addition to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and now Disney. Wow writing that out really makes it sound even more ridiculous!

read - The best books of 2019 - 35 to be exact. I don’t read books…its TERRIBLE. Honestly, I hate that about myself and I really wish I liked reading, but I don’t. I’ve tried so many times…ordered books people suggested, listened to book podcasts, I get distracted, fall asleep,

recipe - Easy slow-cooker rice pudding. A winter staple in the Korkidis house. My boys love it with raisins and a little cinnamon. I sub the dairy milk for a almond or oat milk.

sneaker - Not a fan of the maxi sole sneaker trend? Well here’s a pair that will give you the look without going all the way. Love the olive color for now and into ahem…Spring.
